Christ is in our Storms with Us

Boat Making

Resources Needed:

  • Paper for origami
  • A step by step guide to folding an origami boat
  • Pens

Instructions:

Ask the congregation to follow the step by step guide to make the boat using the paper. Ask them to draw or write on their boat things that would help them to get through the storms in their lives and get to the other side e.g. the love of Jesus, faith, support from the Christian family.

Facing Storms

Resources Needed:

  • Storm clouds cut out on paper
  • Pens

Instructions:

Ask the congregation if they are going through a storm in their life. Do they know someone who is? Are they allowing the presence of Jesus to help them through that storm? They should take a storm cloud and write or illustrate how they feel and what they think about the storm that either they or their friend is going through. On the other hand, they could write a prayer on the storm cloud to allow Jesus to help them through it. They should take the storm cloud home to remember that Jesus is there in our storms and He is able to help us.

The Three Stages of the Storm

Resources Needed:

  • 3 signs labelled beginning, middle, end
  • Post-its
  • Pens

Instructions:

Put up the signs in a quiet space. Ask the congregation to think about the storms that they have been through in the past. What have been their thought patterns at each stage of the storm? Ask the congregation to write down their thoughts and feelings on the post-its and attach them to the different stages of the storm. At what point was Jesus the most present in their storm? Ask them if they are allowing Jesus to help them through their storms.
