Overview:
This prayer station can be really effective and work really well for all ages but it will need plenty of adult supervision!
Create a den out of tables, chairs, sheets and cushions (think back to the sort of dens you made as a kid!). You want it to be reasonably dark inside and big enough to fit four or five people in at once.
You’ll need to have a decent size world map stuck to the floor under the den and a selection of pens and small post it notes. Have glow sticks and torches about for people to use. It can be helpful to stick a glowstick to anywhere where people might be likely to bump their heads!
Print a few copies of the following text and have them around the map.
DARKNESS
Then I said to myself, “Oh, he even sees me in the dark!
At night I’m immersed in the light!”
It’s a fact: darkness isn’t dark to you;
night and day, darkness and light, they’re all the same to you. Psalm 139
So many people in the world live in darkness in the world. God knows where each of them is, even if they seem lost or in too much trouble. He cares for them and loves them.
Take some time thinking about people around the world that are in dark situations such famine or war or persecution.
Write a prayer for them on the post-it note and place it on the map.
Thank God that he knows and cares where each person is on our planet. Ask him to help those in trouble and to prompt us to help where we are able to.
This station can be easily done without the den and just on a table but it is great to use a more experiential sort of approach if you are able to!
