Fingerprints

Overview:

Read Psalm 139:13-18 (the New Living Translation is great for this passage)

Use the following instructions (adapting them to your congregation wherever you need to) to explain the activity. If you are showing the video show it before you read the instructions.

The Psalm we read this morning says “Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous – how well I know it!” I don’t know if you know how wonderfully complex each and every one of you are but if you take a moment to think about it you are actually amazing! We have bones four times stronger than concrete, our noses can recognise and remember 50,000 scents and we have 45 miles of nerves inside us!

But the amazing things about us aren’t just limited to our bodies – we have unique personalities, we can do incredible things with our brains as varied as creating poetry, learning to cure disease or speak another language. We have a lot to be thankful to God for.

At the front we have a large table covered in paper – come up and use the paint/ink to put your unique fingerprint on the paper and by your fingerprint write a prayer of praise and thanks to God for creating you to be you. You could also write a prayer of thanks for other people who are just as unique as you are.
