Items Needed:
- A PowerPoint presentation. The first slide shows three images (a candle, a torch, a head lamp). The seond slide has the simple liturgy below.
- Alternatively you can have three types of lights to hand rather than using a powerpoint.
Overview:
Show the three images and ask people what they all have in common.
Obviously that they all help us to see in the dark.
Ask how many people have ever been in the dark without a light? Perhaps they were camping or there had been a power cut. Invite people to say what it was like?
Explain that when Jesus described himself as a light, one thing he was saying is that he will help us to see the right way to go even when it seems dark all around us.
Invite everyone to take a moment to think of any darkness they are aware of and which they want to invite Jesus to come into as a light.
(pause for a moment)
Encourage everyone to use the words on the second slide to ask Jesus to shine his light into our lives.
Use the following text as a call and response:
Jesus said: “I am the world’s Light. No one who follows me stumbles around in the darkness. I provide plenty of light to live in.”
Lord Jesus, light of the world, we come to worship you!
