Prayer Chain

Resources Needed:

  • Small strips of paper around 2cm wide by 10 cm long.
  • Pens
  • Sellotape

Instructions:

Make sure that each table has a pile of small strips of paper (enough for 2-3 strips per person). Explain that people will have a few minutes to think about and discuss any people or situations that they would like to pray for. Once they’ve done this they write the names of the person or situation on a strip of paper. Encourage them to think of more than one situation or person each.

Once they have written the prayers remind them that in Matthew 18:19-20 Jesus said “When two of you get together on anything at all on earth and make a prayer of it, my Father in heaven goes into action. And when two or three of you are together because of me, you can be sure that I’ll be there.” (The Message)

Explain that as a sign of joining together to offer the prayers to God, you will use the slips of paper on the table to make a paper chain using sellotape.
Once each table has a chain, get one person from each table to bring their table’s chain to the front. Make all of them into one long chain which you hold up at the front.

Read the verses from Matthew 18 again and close by saying the Lord’s Prayer together.
