Reflection

Using the verses below reflect on the passage & the meaning behind it. You can read this on your own or discuss it with others.

Luke 4:18-19 (NIV)
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
   because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
19     to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.”

Questions to consider:

  1. As you re-read Jesus’ mission statement how does it make you feel? Are you comfortable with his claim to be the only one who can accomplish this task or does part of you find that offensive?
  2. We sometimes find it difficult to admit when we’re weak or hurting but the good news of Jesus’ mission statement is only really good news for us when we are ready to admit that we are broken and that we need his help. Is this something that you find easy to do? Are there areas in your life where you know that you need to admit your brokenness to God today?

On your own or with the people that you are discussing with take some time to pray, admitting to God, if you feel comfortable to, your need for him and thanking him for the good news that he offers us in response.
