Rest

Items Needed:

Cushions, Throws, Beanbags (anything to create a nice, comfortable “chill-out” space) A couple of bibles
Some printed bible verses (see below)
Some chilled out music and speakers to play it through.

Overview:

We live increasingly busy lives and take less and less time to slow down and realise God’s presence with us. This station is about taking time to do that. If you can create an area that feels separate to the noise and activity of the rest of the room it will work much better. Rather than have printed instructions it is simple to explain this station verbally.

Spread the bean bags/cushions etc out around your chill out space. Place the bibles and bible verses around the room.

Explaining the Station:

“We live increasingly busy lives and take less and less time to slow down and rest. In all the business we can sometimes find that we are less able to recognise God’s presence with us. Today we are going to take some time to do that. We’ve created a chill-out area in which you can take space to connect with God, putting all of the worries and stresses of the week to one side. You can read through some of the bible verses we’ve laid out, listen to the music in the background or simply take some time allow God to speak to you.”

Bible Verses:

Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly. Matthew 11:28-30

By the seventh day God had finished his work. On the seventh day he rested from all his work. God blessed the seventh day. He made it a Holy Day because on that day he rested from his work, all the creating God had done.
Genesis 2:2

Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.

Philippians 4:6-7

The Lord replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

Exodus 33:14

God’s house is a safe-house for the battered, a sanctuary during bad times. The moment you arrive, you relax; you’re never sorry you knocked.
Psalm 9:9-10

Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him.
Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken. Psalm 62:1-2

Let the peace of Christ keep you in tune with each other, in step with each other.

Colossians 3:15

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

1 Peter 5:7
